Machete don’t text

Ever wonder why we made the risky choice of naming our adoptable foster dog after a really sharp knife? Here’s a clue, courtesy of Magnet Lady Kathleen Henn:

That’s by far the most popular line from the 2010 Robert Rodriguez movie Machete, uttered matter-of-factly by actor Danny Trejo in the following R-rated scene. (There’s an f-bomb, so probably NSFW.)

In the movie, Trejo plays a former Mexican cop on a revenge mission. True to his name, Officer Machete is a force to be reckoned with. Yet, you can’t help but respect this antihero for the personal strength that keeps him alive and fighting corruption, more or less on the side of good. Plus, he’s funny.

We had recently seen the movie when we found Charlie Machete, whose scarred face and obvious strong will to survive reminded us of Trejo’s character. The scars faded, but the name stuck. He’s a powerful dog with a strong heart. Like the man in the movie, he can come off a bit unrefined, but he’s ultimately a good guy. And he’s got a real soft side.

Machete loves our husky mix Minnie.

All he wants for Christmas is a forever family. If you know anyone who would like to make Charlie Machete their own, please share his story. You might start by sharing this video:

About crystalwayward

I live with two formerly wayward dogs. I care deeply about the environment, and I think gardening is a revolutionary act.
